BAGHDAD (AP) ? Officials say back-to-back car bombings in a market in central Iraq have killed at least 10 civilians and wounded 30.
A police officer says three parked car bombs exploded virtually simultaneously early Monday, tearing through a wholesale vegetable and fruit market in the town of Jidaidat al-Shatt in Diala province, just outside the provincial capital of Baqouba some 60 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad.
The officer added that the death toll could rise.
Provincial councilman Sadiq al-Husseini confirmed the casualty figure. The police officer spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.
Violence has spiked in Iraq in recent weeks, raising fears of a return to widespread sectarian bloodshed.
