South Florida real estate fares poorly in ranking

South Florida ranks near the bottom in a new listing of real estate recoveries across the country.

Homes.com calculated metropolitan areas? rebound in home prices when compared to past peaks, before the housing bubble popped and values crashed. Leading the way: Texas, with six of the 10 top spots. San Antonio holds the No. 1 ranking in the homes.com list, beating its pre-bust value peak by about 120 percent.

South Florida, including Palm Beach, finished 11th from the bottom of the list of 100 metropolitan areas on the homes.com study. According to the site?s index, South Florida homes have covered about 14 percent of their value since hitting bottom.
